I head of the Microbiome and Genetics Core facility at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda MD and serve as adjunct professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Immunology. I was a group leader at the Max-Planck Institute for Biology in Tuebingen Germany and a lecturer in the Genetics dept. of Trinity College, Dublin. I completed postdoctoral research at Cambridge University UK and at the University of Texas, School of Public Health in Houston. My primary, masters and doctoral degrees were earned at Trinity College, Dublin.
My published works cover diverse areas ranging from DNA photochemistry through molecular evolution, immunogenetics, transplantation medicine, and microbiome science and have been cited some 13700 times. I serve as an associate editor for Immunogenetics and have worked as reviewer for European, US, UK and Australian grant funding agencies.
